The Longest Week- A Perfect Saturday

It has been perhaps the longest workweek in recent history; report cards, parent conferences, and Owen's first daycare experience all in one. We are making up for it with the perfect momma-son Saturday! We started with a fresh diaper, a nice warm bottle all cuddled on the couch early in the morning, followed by some playtime. He loves the stacking rings and the foam edges of his padded floor squares. Then he had cereal and banana, his liquid vitamins (which he loves!), and his first taste of half a Cheerio! He can pick them up fine but doesn't want to put them near his mouth! After breakfast he took a great splashy bath. During his bath on Wednesday night he echoed me when I told him the pato (duck) says quack. He kept repeating "kak", "kak", "kak" so amazing! Today he did it again and even started to do it on his own. He would wave at the duckie in the water and say "kak". Derek thinks it sounds more like "cuck". Either way, it is so exciting! It is kind of like his first word, since we know he is connecting it with its meaning. After his bath, he was in a giggly, happy mood. He got dressed in comfy clothes and we played some more. He loves peek-a-boo and rolling the ball back and forth. He will initiate the peek-a-boo game by using a towel, blanket or any cloth. The other night we were out to dinner and he used the tablecloth! ha! He started to get sleepy around 9:15 am so we read three new books. He loves touch and feel books, and knows where to touch on every page the first time through! After reading 2 1/2 books, he was ready to fall asleep. I held him for a few minutes sleeping in my arms which I do every chance I get to memorize the feeling, then he napped in his crib for 45 minutes, which is his usual nap length. When he woke up he had another bottle, and then came upstairs to play while I got dressed for our first run through with the new jogging stroller. He seemed to like it. We just jogged the neighborhood for about 15 minutes. Should work out well. It was a good deal - a Kelty jogger for only $40 at the consignment sale.

After the jog we changed a diaper and took the exersaucer out back in the shade since it is such a gorgeous day. Then it was time for lunch. Avocado and apricot that I pureed and froze into cubes. He likes it mixed, but not the avocado so much by itself. Whenever he eats apricot he seems to get a little thirsty. Now it's time for a cute outfit and a visit to a friend's new baby. Later we are all going to the 50% off sale at the consignment and then home for dinner, more books, and hopefully a great night's sleep like last night, when he slept for 9 hours straight. He is getting a top tooth though, so not sure how the night will go.
