A Wonderful Regular Kind of Day
We had a lovely day today. I woke up around 6 am and had a few minutes for some quiet time before O. woke up happily at 6:20.
The first thing we do every morning is say "Buenos Dias" to the pajaritos (birdies) hanging above O's crib. I sewed the birds last winter after I couldn't find a mobile I liked for his nursery. There are seven birds, originally named Peace, Love, Harmony, Satya (truth),two other names that escape me at the moment, and Robyn and Joy. The last two birds (at the top of the mobile) are named for both grandmothers. Each bird has a heart bead sewn inside with a blessing and one of the birds has a secret message too. I am thinking about renaming the birds for all the great-grandmothers. The new names are: Josephine, Rose, Margaret, Pauline, Hazel (a great great aunt), Teresa (Joe is that spelled right?), Robyn and Joy. I gently sway the bottom branch so the birds swing gently as I sign "bird" and we smile and laugh.
After greeting the pajaritos, we head downstairs to make O's bottle and watch the cat eat. I usually cuddle with Owen on the couch while he drinks the bottle, then we play a bit before changing his diaper. After that, more playtime and today he seemed ready for a nap around 9 am. He usually naps 45 minutes (always has, since around 2 or 3 months old) but the last couple of days only a 1/2 hour in the morning. When he woke up, we went and picked up my mom and headed to Babies R Us to pick up some birthday party supplies! We got a small pool for the ball pit and O's present, a water table, which will also be at the party to entertain the one and two year olds. We had fun shopping, dropped off my mom, and came home for O's lunch. After he ate lunch we grabbed Derek for a lunch break out at Daphne's Greek. Owen enjoyed the fountain there and walking outside along a low wall. Even though he had already eaten O enjoyed some pita triangles and a few bites of gyro meat. yum! We came home and while O. had his afternoon nap we snuck a short one too. Then Owen and I headed out to the park to meet his friend Camilla (and my friend her momma Carmen). It was a gorgeous day and Owen loved pushing his walker all over the grass. Camilla brought a ball to share and later we ran into some other young friends playing there. We left the park around 5:30 and headed home for O's dinner. He had fun eating and is definitely into the messy eating stage! So we headed directly to the tub after he finished eating. He had a cozy bath, put on his monkey pajamas, and enjoyed reading Goodnight Moon in Spanish two times in a row before brushing his teeth and falling asleep!
