A Rainy Day off

It's been raining all night; the perfect weather for sleeping. We had a busy day yesterday; church in the morning followed by lots of playing and napping in the afternoon topped off with a visit to grandma and grandpa's before grandma heads to Florida for a board meeting this week. Owen has been going to bed at 8 for the past several nights. He slept straight through for nine hours last Wed. and Thurs. nights and has been waking 1-2 times since. This is a bit earlier than his old 9 pm bedtime. Eight is working out well, but I know it will be tough sometimes to keep that routine. Ever since I was a babysitter the bedtime routine has been my favorite time of day with kids. I looked forward to establishing that peaceful time with my own child someday. Here is our routine so far:

7:30 Quiet play in his room for five or ten minutes
7:45 change into pj's, snuggle into the glider for 2-3 books. Owen has an amazing attention span for a seven-month old (I think). He looks closely at illustrations and even helps turn the pages. He loves touchy-feely books and finds all the textures on the pages. I think he is used to books because we started reading to him as soon as he was born.
8:00 kisses and good-nights all around

Every two or three days we start the routine around 7 with a warm bath. He isn't bathing every day yet since he's not exactly making mud pies, but soon enough!

Now we are having quiet morning time. He's been getting up around 6:30 am every morning. Now he's in his exersaucer playing his music and he'll eat rice cereal around 7:30 am. We are only introducing one new food at a time so we can watch for allergies. So far he only eats the following:

rice cereal, apples, bananas, squash, peas, green beans, carrots, sweet potatoes, avocado, and soon we will introduce apricots.

We will also try oatmeal cereal soon but we are avoiding dairy or meats til 8 months and finger foods til 9 months. Thanks to everyone for helping us stick to this!

Harper Stamps turned one over the weekend which has me thinking about Owen's birthday. Harper is the daughter of Kelly at the blog Kelly's Korner, which I've been reading since the beginning of my pregnancy when she was going through hers. Harper nearly didn't survive and her story was so miraculous. Check it out for yourself at her blog.

Nine hours of sleep sounds miraculous to me! I can hardly wait. i've been trying to read books to Sawyer before bed. I started out with Matt's Dr. Suess ones that he had as a kid. We really need to get more children's books though because you only read Dr. Suess soooooo many times. Any suggestions on good ones?

and bedtime is my favorite part of the day too. :)
