15 months

Owen is 15 months old now and we are just having a blast! He understands so much and has become such a helpful little guy. He helps unload the dryer by bringing folded clothes to particular people and hands us clean dishes to put away from the dishwasher. He is very good at putting things away where they belong and doesn't like things out of place. Hmmm, wonder where he got that from? Himself I think. For example, if he sees something out of place he points at it and grunts or brings it to us or in some cases picks it up and points to the garbage (in the case of food under his highchair). He is a neat eater and puts spilled food back in his bowl too. It bewilders me sometimes. He still loves brooms and vaccuums and loves to help sweep up (usually the pile of dirt I've already swept). Yesterday he spent a good half hour with an outdoor broom sweeping puddles in the gutter. He had a blast. We are very lucky with him because he doesn't put things in his mouth ever (like coins or batteries found on the floor). He picks them up and brings them to us.

Our morning routine is cute. He sleeps all night in his crib but for a week or two has been waking around 5 am and then comes to sleep the last hour cuddling with us. I love it. When he gets up he gets off the bed and gives me my glasses and hair clip from the nightstand. So stinkin' cute. It makes it a lot easier to get up in the morning.

Some other 15 month old stats:

To Owen,

*Yesterday we noticed your first molar on the right side has cut through. It was sometime in the past few days because we checked last weekend when you were putting your fingers in your mouth a lot and nothing was there. Haven't been able to see the left side yet.

*You've been self-feeding with a spoon all summer (probably since around 10 1/2 months)but now it's very cute because you eat even soup and cereal with milk and bananas on your own. If you get too much food on your spoon you adjust the amount before putting it in your mouth.

*Friday you started the Toddler 1's parent/toddler playschool class at St. Stephen's church. You go from 9-11 AM on Fridays to play outside, make art, eat a snack, and have music time. There were 11 children the first day. You got your first Scholastic book order to bring home (teacher friends, you know how exciting this was for me!) and your name is in print on the birthday snack calendar too! I will get to take you a few times this year like on our next teacher furlough day Nov. 12 and when I'm on maternity leave this winter.

*You weigh about 24 pounds according to our home scale but since you don't have a 15 month pedi visit, I might take you for a nurse visit to weigh and measure you this week.

*You say "daddy" so cute and sometimes say mama but usually call me dada.

*You started waving to people this week (usually strangers) to say hello and you started saying "hi".

*You've been saying the hard /g/ sound in different combinations for a while: (googa, gago, gogo, gagoo etc) but this week added some fun /l/ sounds. We love it when you say "wooly booly" and "booly booly booly". We know lots of words are just around the corner!

*You've been going up and down stairs since around 8 or 9 months old but lately have been wanting to walk up and down so we walk you up and are teaching you how to scoot down on your butt. We say "boom" every time you get to the next step and you say it too. Now you say it before us. It's adorable.

*You got your first dump truck and big wheel last week. You don't reach the pedals yet but there is a floorboard for your feet and we have a push handle in the back. You are still getting the hang of steering.

*This week we've started hanging out as a family in your room between bath and bedtime. You have a reading corner under your tree with pillows and blankets and you love getting comfy and bringing lots of books to look at. We are trying to enjoy it a lot right now because eventually your sister's bed will be in that spot. Hopefully not til April or May though.

*You are signing "more", "eat", sometimes "milk" (leche) and "light" (luz)

*You love imitating dogs barking when you hear them and have started to mimic some other animal sounds when we read.

*You love to be outside and often go get your shoes and hat and try to put them on then stand by the door waiting to go out.

*I speak to you in Spanish about 80% of the time and you understand many words and are starting to mimic them like gato(cat), agua(water) and ojos (eyes).
