Owen's Monkey Business

Owen went to the dr. on Monday, June 29, 2009. He saw Dr. Diab. Owen's stats: weight: 9 lbs. 4.7 oz. (61st percentile) length: 22 1/4 inches (91st percentile) head circumference: 37 cm. (43rd percentile) moro reflex: good Dr. says "he is perfect!" There is no percentile system for hair! So today is mommy's first day at home with baby alone. We are doing great! Here is a rundown of our day so far: O. has settled into a new pattern the past couple of days of eating every 2 hours instead of every 3 and not falling to sleep for about 45 min. to an hour after eating. This means that instead of a good 3 hours of sleep for mommy, mommy is lucky to get one hour! So this is what they were talking about! So far, I've managed to eat and rest when he does, but our day so far has been like this: 3:00 am ate 5-6 slept 6:00 ate 7-8 slept 8:00 ate 9:30-10:30 slept (mom eats breakfast) 10:30 ate 11:30-12:30 slept (mom eats lunch, closes eyes for 20 min., takes out chicken to thaw ...

The second week has been much more active than the first, with O. eating more frequently and staying awake and alert for 45min. to one hour after each feeding. It is fun to see his eyeballs more! He sleeps about 90 minutes between feedings and feeds between 2-3 hours. This week he: *had visits from Carmen and Jesse, Lillian and Daniel, Peggy A. and Sian *had a sponge bath and his hair washed *had a professional newborn portrait photography session *found his thumb

We had a lovely Father's Day celebration here today with Derek, Dennis and Joe. It was extra special to have both grandpas and a new daddy to celebrate with! Grandma Joy made a beautiful bagel brunch and an amazingly yummy pork chop dinner with two kinds of pie and vanilla bean ice cream for dessert. We had a backyard photo shoot and both grandpas got new baseball caps from little guy. Pictures to come soon!

This pic is a good reflection of Owen's first week; mellow and laid-back! He slept pretty regular three-hour stints between feedings, falling asleep right away after eating and waking up pretty much three hours later on the dot. He loves kicking his legs straight out and holding them up in the air as well as stretching his arms above his head or just chilling with all the new airspace outside the womb! This week he: *had visits from Apryle, Ashley, Julie, and Terri from school *went for his first "walk" in the stroller (up and down our street!) *had his first doctor visit (he weighed in at 8 lb. 4 oz. today so he is back up to his birthweight already!)

Owen was born on Friday, June 12, 2009 at 8:15 A.M.! Everyone is home and doing well! Photos and stories to come!

We just got back from our due date appt. and nothing's going on as far as labor progression. If I don't deliver by next Tuesday they will schedule an induction for Thursday afternoon and most likely the baby would be born Friday, June 12, 2009. So, now the order of business is to encourage him to make an appearance before Tuesday! Though I don't mind a birthdate of June 12, I had been hoping to avoid an induction. So, my new schedule includes: walking walking walking some acupressure maybe pineapple, red raspberry leaf tea, and evening primrose caplets maybe acupuncture the special salad dressing at Ed LaDou's Caioti Pizza Cafe in Studio City. spicy food basil, oregano Tried: spa pedicure on Wednesday (thumbs up on this idea, jodi!) I know some of these are old wives' tales but I figure, what the heck? I've got time. I will not be going the castor oil route. ha.

Yay- just got the news! My cousin Alice had baby Oqwe at 6:22 P.M. last night -June 3, 2009! He was 8 lbs. 10 oz. and 19 inches long!! Congrats Alice and Justin!

Joe finished the mural in little guy's bathroom yesterday! Take a peek: It turned out super cute!

Well, as of today our little guy is officially a Junebug and not a Mayflower. So here is some info. about the June birthstones. Apparently, there are three: pearl, moonstone, and alexandrite.
