Owen's Monkey Business

We took a Father's Day weekend trip to Temecula and Carlsbad with a full day at the San Diego Wild Animal Park (a sister park to the well-known San Diego Zoo, but 35-40 miles away). In Temecula, we spent a while at the beautiful Wilson Creek Winery, sitting under a gazebo next to the playground. Plenty of grass for O. to explore. Can't wait to return to explore more of the area! My cousin Cyerra and her husband Mike live in Temecula also, so we met her for dinner at P.F. Chang's and then went back to their beautiful newlywed love nest for berries and cheesecake. The following afternoon (Father's Day) we went to hear Mike play a set at The Coyote in Carlsbad, then walked over to the beach for a bit. At The Coyote we found out Owen lovessss lemons! (and french fries!)

where we were during the earthquake! We took a "mini-break" to the Palm Springs area on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. It was Derek's first time visiting the area, and we had a great time. Owen slept most of the trip out, which was a little over 2 hours. We checked in to the Hilton Garden Inn in Rancho Mirage around noon, got settled in, and headed out for lunch. After driving into downtown Palm Springs, which was hopping due to the Dinah Shore Golf Tournament, we turned back around and ended up at The Paseo in Palm Desert. We decided to eat at Tommy Bahama's, and had a lovely meal. Near the end it got really windy. Then Derek commented, "Isn't it weird the way the floor shakes with the wind?" Then we waited. And the shaking didn't stop. After 10 or 15 seconds everyone was looking at each other saying "Is it an earthquake?" Then people started getting up from their tables and heading inside. I was holding O. and we waited in the door...

Saturday morning my parents and I left for Palm Desert/Palm Springs for the long weekend. Derek stayed home to work on a project for work. We really enjoyed exploring the area and Owen did great traveling and staying/sleeping at the hotel. We loved the cacti, desert architecture and tons of consignment/thrift shops there! Can't wait for a return trip and with Derek next time!
